Everything we do has an impact. The food we eat and the wine we drink, leave a footprint that can last for generations. At Polkura, we take responsibility for that impact, working to reduce, compensate, and, in many cases reverse it.

We recognize our footprint and aim to move forward with greater care and awareness, so that opening a bottle of Polkura anywhere in the world does not create an impact we cannot take at least take responsibility for.

Today, companies play a key role in addressing social and environmental challenges. Governments are no longer the only answer. At Polkura, we believe business must be part of the solution and act as a force for good.

Environmental Solutions

At Polkura, we reached our original goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50% five years ahead of schedule, and we are committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. We have decided to stop using additional internal combustion vehicles, prioritizing electromobility.

We currently generate 30% more energy than we consume through solar panels, feeding the surplus into the public grid. Some viticutural tasks are carried out with drones, reducing emissions and improving safety. We are implementing regenerative agriculture programmes in order to restore carbon into the soil.

We prioritize lighter glass bottles and are testing a bottle reuse programme. We also work with suppliers aligned with our environmental philosophy.

Water

Without water there is no agriculture, and without agriculture there is no wine. Drought in Chile is no longer temporary but permanent. At Polkura, we take responsibility.

We treat water as a scarce resource. Together with the Pontificia Univesidad Católica, we developed systems that reduced water use by 35%. Our best wines come from dry farming, using only winter rainfall.

We also participate in regional water footprint measurement programmes to reduce usage at a broader level.

Alstroemeria diluta

Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration

Our vineyard coexists with nature. 20% of our property is dedicated to conservation and restoration. Together with the Universidad Austral, we have developed biodiversity studies and regeneration plans.

We protect endangered species such as Alstroemeria diluta flower and the wild Güiña cat (Leopardus guigna), reinforcing our commitment to ecosystem restoration.

Everything has changed. Companies must now be part of the solution. At Polkura, we believe business should act as a force for good.
